Annual Pot Eradication Nets Over 1,000 Plants

On Tuesday, August 17th, and Thursday, August 19th, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department assisted the DEA, Arkansas National Guard, and the Arkansas State Police in the annual marijuana eradication program.  Over the two-day period 1,319 plants were seized throughout the county with a street value of approximately $15,000.00.

One arrest had been made on Tuesday with more to come.  On
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010, 33-year-old, Johnny Snow of Green Forest was arrested and charged with 9 counts of manufacturing a controlled substance (marijuana) Class “C” felony.

New Head Coach Anxious to Begin Season

Eric Daniel, the new head football coach at Berryville High School is ready for the season and is looking forward to working with all the players.  Daniels, a luncheon speaker at the Berryville Kiwanis Wednesday, reminded all that the Bobcat Purple-Gold Game is Friday night, August 20th.  The Jr. High game is 5pm, Senior High plays at 7pm.  Admission is 1 bar of soap or 1 towel.  Berryville's first game is with Yellville, September 3rd.  The 10th, it's the Bobcats versus Huntsville, and on the 17th, the Carroll County 'Super Bowl' with Green Forest.

New G.F. Middle School Ready For Students

A ribbon cutting took place Tuesday, August 17, at the recently completed Green Forest Middle School.  A host of dignitaries including the School Board and Superintendent, the Green Forest Chamber of Commerce, Architect Josh Siebert, students, parents, teachers, and the media.

Municipal Office Filing Period Ends August 24 - Update

Area residents considering campaigns for municipal offices have three business days to make up their minds and get their paperwork filed.

The filing period for the November general election ballot continues through noon on Aug. 24.

Anyone interested in running must file a nominating petition signed by registered voters from the area they would represent.  Candidates must also file political practice pledges and an affidavit of eligibility.

Candidates who have filed so far include:  From Berryville, for City Council, Ward 1, Position 1, Joel Gibson; Ward One, Position 2 Marty Riley; Ward 2, Position 1, Linda Riddlesperger; Ward 2, Position, 2, Cindy George.  Three Candidates have filed for Mayor so far, Tim McKinney, Jason Williams and Brian Scheller.  For City Clerk, Leonda Davis.

At Green Forest, for Mayor, Charlie Reece; Clerk/Treasurer, Summer Fultz and Stacy Drake; for City Council, Ward One Position 1, Willa Kerby; Ward 1, Position 2, Nestor Rivera; Ward 2, Position 1, Joe Pierce and Bill Niven; Ward 2, Position 2, Pamela Norton. 

Eureka Springs candidates filing for Mayor, Jeffrey Jeans, Morris Pate, Beverly Blankenship and Rachel Love, Charles "Sonny" Carter, Joyce Zeller.  City Attorney, Tim Weaver; Clerk/Treasurer, Mary Jean Sell and Chuck Wofford.   For City Council, so far, for Ward 1, Position 2, Ken Pownall and Mickey Schneider;  Ward 2, Position 1, James Devito.

Oak Grove filings include Sam Jones for Mayor, Patsy Carlton for Clerk/Treasurer; City Council Position 1, Gary High; Position 2, Gary Gray; Position 4, Eugene Reynolds; and Position 5, Janice McKelvey.

Annual Adopt-A-Seat Fills Buses For Kids

The annual Adopt-A-Seat school supply drive was held Wednesday morning at St. John's entrance. St. John's will continue to accept school supplies for the next week.  They will be divided up for all Carroll County schools, Head Starts and the C.C. Learning Center.  For more information on the type of supplies needed and to have them picked up, call 423-3355
