St. John's Foundation Donation

In today’s economic times, community support is essential. There is a wonderful power that comes along with giving back to your community, and giving to those in need. St. John’s Hospital-Berryville is calling upon its community to give back in support of the “Redesigning Healthcare…Room by Room” campaign.

Two community families, Richard and Mary Lou Harp and Bill and Freddie Ray, have answered this call, coming together to sponsor a private room in memory of John Patrick Bishop, nephew of Richard and Mary Lou Harp.

“We decided to name the room after our nephew because he was such a strong, deliberate and remarkable person,” says Mary Lou.

Richard Harp and Bill Ray have served on the hospital board together for over 18 years.

“We would do anything to help the hospital because it is critical to our community and we are so grateful to have it,” says Richard.

“We knew that this room would help a lot of people, and be very useful for the patients,” says Freddie Ray. “That is why my husband Bill and I decided to donate to the hospital and give back to our community.”

Richard and Bill currently serve on the Foundation Board, the Hospital Board and the  Capital Campaign Committee, campaigning for community support and fundraising for the renovation.

Leopard Habitat Opening July 17

images/stories/leopard.jpgTurpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge will soon open a new habitat specifically built for leopards. The grand opening will be July 17 at 11 a.m.  The non-profit organization raised over $40,000 in donations for materials for the project.  To save money, staff members handled the construction.

The new habitat is more extensive than any others at the refuge. Since it is intended specifically for leopards, it includes a heated and cooled building. The leopards’ new abode will receive a few finishing touches this week in preparation for the July 17 opening.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge rescues abused, neglected or otherwise endangered lions, tigers, leopards, and other large animals and places them in natural habitats as soon as possible. It is the world’s largest refuge for big cats, currently sheltering over 100.

For more information call the refuge at 479-253-5841.
