Sheriff Addresses Allegations In Press Conference |
|
Carroll County Sheriff Bob Grudek held a press conference Tuesday to address allegations that have been made by local publications regarding several issues of concern.
The use of helicopters in marijuana eradication efforts and the question of whether its a good use of resources when methamphetamine seems to be bigger social problem. The Sheriff justified the use of the helicopters as something that has been done for at least the past 12 years, long before he became Sheriff.
Another subject was the specific case of 81 year old Ed Chevallier, owner of Blue John's. Chevallier had pepper spray used on him and was taken to the ground when he did not obey a command from the responding deputy to drop some scissors he was using in his garden. It was not the first time the Sheriffs office had been called to the property for a disturbance between Chevallier and the tenant. Grudek charged the Green Forest Police Department with providing Chevallier a copy of a print-out from the ACIC, Arkansas Crime Information Center regarding his arrest. He said that is strictly prohibited by law.
The Sheriff also showed graphic, projected photographs, of a wounded deputy with deep lacerations from a sharp object. In a statement made available to reporters Grudek said , "If you honestly believe that an individual in their senior years is harmless, there are vast examples of police officers being killed by so called harmless individuals." It is noteworthy here to mention that Ed Chevallier had tried to enter the Sheriffs office to attend the press conference Tuesday, but was denied access. Write Comment (7 comments) |
