Archie Rousey, Jail Administrator at the Detention Center, tells Carroll County J.P.'s at their July 16 meeting, Jailers are due a raise, having been promised one some years ago, after the Carroll County Sheriff's office and Detention Center was paid off. Rousey said it's been paid off since last year and still no mention of an increase in Jailer's pay.
He said they just want equal pay as Dispatchers, no more, no less. Jailers are the lowest paid employees in the County, Rousey said. Also, most cannot afford the County insurance and many are single parents trying to support a family. It would only take some $27,000 to get the Jailers up to $10 per hour. Rousey contends now that the Jail is paid off and making money, the County should honor the promised pay increase.

If you pay 8 or 9 dollars an hour that is what you get no more until they find a higher wage. I guarantee if someone would run aginst our dear treasurer I for one would gladly vote them. I would love for our elected officials to work for 1 month for jailer pay without supplementing their income in anyway and see just how far jailer pay goes.

Comment by anonymous on 2010-07-23 15:38:41 They are due a raise. They work more hours than some of the other county employees that work 35 and get paid for 40. How fair is that? Plus, not to mention the danger involved in the work and no time off for bad weather. Get with the program Carroll County!

on 2010-07-24 07:58:59 I am appalled at the comment our elected treasurer made. "They are lucky to have a job." From what I understand our elected mayor made the same statement at a different meeting. You my dear ELECTED OFFICIALS are the lucky ones to have jobs.
Comment by anonymous on 2010-08-12 09:19:41 Every county employee needs a raise , actually 2 raises a year , acost of living raise , and a yearly raise ,.... these people try to make the county run smoothly ,and try to give everything with in reason to the citizens of carroll county ,and yet they are very nice , and do their best to help everyone.Didn't your mom ever teach you, if you don't have nothing nice to say , don't say it at all. And dad said, if you hear something ,and it don't sound right , go get it straight from the horses mouth yourself.
Comment by anonymous on 2010-08-12 09:20:02 You know, i believe if you go talk to any of the county officals , and ask questions ,they will give you answers to your the questions. And they also hold a session every 3rd friday of the month, and it is open to the public .so my advice to you the citizens of berryville is go check it out ,Tthe next session is the 20th .of august .Remember we are a county, not just berryville,so you idiots mouthing out there get a clue and get the facts , before you go to slamming people , and dragging their names through the mudd.

Comment by anonymous on 2010-08-06 10:53:18 well if you want to know where the revenue goes look on the East side of the jail they made a gun range there when they could use the one down the road for free and a new dodge charger.
Comment by anonymous on 2010-08-12 09:20:19 all the work for the gun range was donated by local businesses and all the Sheriff Dept. paid was for grass seed. The Charger is used from Kansas State Police and was cheaper than the SUV's. Just to clear that up.
