The unity in the Body of Christ was evident in the success of the Marathon. Christians from many different denominations, ages, and backgrounds united together to speak God’s Word over Carroll County. Over 240 readers took their turn reading from the Bible on Berryville Town Square during May 2nd thru May 6th, 2010.
Closing Ceremony May 6th, which was part of National Day of Prayer, took place at 11:30 a.m. “In keeping with this years theme, Prayer! For Such a Time as This, based on Nahum 1:7 let us humble ourselves before the Lord in genuine faith, knowing that He is good. As we call on Him, we can be confident that he hears our prayers and stands ready to answer. God is our refuge in times of trouble, and as His people, we are appointed to pray for our generation and period in history,“ stated Shirley Dobsopn Chairman NDP Task Force.
Pastor Steve Westbrook of 1st Baptist Church, Berryville opened the ceremony with prayer. Praise and worship by Truth Tabernacle of Green Forest and Eureka Springs was sung in both English and Spanish. Guest speaker was Pastor Phil Wilson of 1st Christian Church of Eureka Springs. Prayer for our nation was then led for each segment of our country: Government by Larry Kirk of Higher Ground; Church by Bonnie Roediger Marathon Co-ordinator; Military by Jim Goins of Living Word Fellowship; Family by Larry Birchfield of Towering Oaks Church; Education by Gary Smith of Youth Alive Christian Fellowship Green Forest High School; Media by Rachel Love of Love Ministries; and Business by Bro John Vandergriff of Towering Oaks Church. Danny McKinney with the Gideons gave a presentation and handed out Bibles. Dan Payne sang three songs he wrote. Pastor Westbrook closed in prayer.
Refreshments baked by Cedar Ridge Country Cupboard were available during the marathon and enjoyed by all.
“To God be the Glory great things he has done. Our 1st Annual Carroll County Bible Reading Marathon was a huge success,” according to Marathon Coordinator Bonnie Roediger. “A big Thank You to all who participated.“ Plans are already underway for next years Marathon.
