January 18, 2010

 

The Berryville Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the 3-5 Intermediate Cafetorium.

 

Members Present:  Sharon Ary, Vonda Bailey, Jack Edens, Gordon Hale, Shannon Hill, Jeff Miles, & Joe Ward

                                                                                                  

Members Absent:  None

 

The minutes and financial reports were approved by the Board.  Dr. Byrd told the Board that he was scheduled to have an exit conference with the auditor on Wednesday, the 20th for the 08-09 fiscal year audit. 

 

The Board discussed a recent letter from the State Department regarding a 33% cutback in funding of projects. 

 

The Board approved keeping the current policy of no buses being allowed to go across state lines.

 

The Board approved a resolution for the 2010 10-Year Master Plan and the 2011-13 Partnership Program.

 

The Board discussed possible dates for a book review.

 

The Board approved Brent Compton’s recommendation to no longer participate in the Green Forest Holiday Basketball Tournament.

 

Dr. Byrd reported that the student attendance count as of January 13th is 1860. 

 

The Administrators each gave a report of their buildings.

 

The Board accepted the retirement of Barbara Owens, Secretary, at the end of her 09-10 contract.

 

The Board approved hiring James Johnson as a Custodian for the remainder of the 09-10 school year.

 

The Board approved adding the following to the Substitute List for the 09-10 school year:

          

Edward Morningdale                   Custodian

 

The Board accepted the resignation of Lisa Dickey, ESL, effective January 11, 2010.

 

The Board approved hiring Susan Newberry as an ESL Teacher for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.

 

The Board approved extending Dr. Byrd’s contract by one year.

 

The Board approved a resolution to not support a home owned by Cindy Baker on the corner of 62 and Ferguson St. to be used as a rehab/half way house due to the close proximity to the school.
