images/stories/jjones1-10.jpgKTHS Photo - Janelle Compton, Acting Mayor of Green Forest, told KTHS Wednesday, that she has recieved a resignation from Alderman Janet Jones.  Jones, is not residing  in her ward. A group of citizens came to Monday nights meeting to show their support for Jones.   According to Compton, Jones should not have voted on the dismissal of Jerry Norris last week, because she is not living in her ward.   Also, Compton said Jones should not have voted in the executive session, Monday, where meter reader Dawn Prom was fired for allegedly lying on her job application about being a convicted felon.  Therefore, according to Mayor Compton, Norris remains “fired”, and Prom is still employed by the City.  At least Compton said, until a special council meeting can be held.

A follow-up to our story about the Jerry Norris incident in Green Forest.  Norris had been serving as a Building Inspector and meter reader for the city, but was fired by Acting Mayor Janelle Compton last week, after learning Norris had allegedly been altering water usage records for a home and turkey house where his daughter lived. The meters, KTHS learned, were on what’s called “meter on vacation”.  The November bill for the turkey house showed only 9,500 gallons used for a charge of $46.00.  The house meter reading was similar.

KTHS received a call from a woman identifying herself as Norris’ daughter late Tuesday, upset with our story about Jerry Norris, and telling the KTHS receptionist that she wanted the story stopped and quoting here, “he only did it to help me”.  KTHS heard from Norris’ wife Wednesday.  Debbie Norris also told KTHS that her husband had been cleared by the Carroll County Sheriff’s office after an investigation into the allegations was conducted just after Christmas.  Sheriff Bob Grudek told KTHS Wednesday that an investigation was done, but that Norris was not cleared by the Sheriff’s office, as his wife had indicated, but that the information from the investigation was turned over to the Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.  KTHS has a call into that office for clarification.

I think compton should wait until the new mayor is in the office she is just acting mayor. And i think prom should be fired for lying on her application. Norris is a good man and should be able to keep his job and been givin a warning on reading his on meters. They need to stop acting like kids....
