City Takes Leap Of Faith For New Plant |
|
KTHS Photo The Green Forest City Council Tuesday, without Mayor Richard Deweese present, took a leap of faith and approved entering into an agreement with Reid Engineering for a nearly $6 million dollar wastewater treatment plant expansion. Green Forest's biggest industry, Tyson Foods, was instrumental in helping the city arrive at the decision. Reid has designed other plants for Tyson's around the country. Experts told the City water rates would not have to be raised, and the city would be free of the nearly $300,000 annual cost for chemicals to meet state mandated requires on effluent and sludge. The deadline to get the application into the Natural Resources Commission for the loan is October 1st. Left to right, Willa Kerby, Mike Miller, Janet Jones and David Garrett. Brown Faces Additional Charges In Boone County |
|
Nathaniel Brown’s young life just got even more complicated since Boone County will also add charges to what Brown is facing in connection with overtaking a Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy’s unit, September 18th, leading police on a high speed pursuit from Green Forest to Alpena, before going out of control and overturning the vehicle. Brown wiggled loose of some handcuffs and was able to take the unit as the deputy and parole officer was inside his trailer home on Hailey Road, near Cisco Rd.
On Friday in Boone County Court, Brown made an appearance to answer charges of 2 counts of attempted capital murder. Brown, 21, of Berryville, attempted to run over or run down two Boone County deputies who had laid spike strips outside of Alpena in an attempt to make the tires go flat on the SUV as it passed through. Brown attempted to hit both deputies, one on one side of the road, one on the other. Moments later, the Sheriff’s department SUV went out of control and rolled over. Brown was slightly injured. Arraignment for Brown in Boone County court will come later this week.
In Carroll County Court, Brown faces charges of criminal attempt to commit capital murder, theft of property, escape, fleeing, aggravated assault, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, DWI drugs, and no seat belt. He remains incarcerated in the Carroll County jail on a $2.5 million dollar bond. Write Comment (0 comments) |

G.F. Refutes Tyson's Figures - Hears Third Option |
|
KTHS Photo The Green Forest City Council called a special meeting Saturday, Sept. 26, for the specific purpose of refuting some figures that Tyson’s had reported at an earlier meeting in the week. Tyson’s had questioned how the city could be in the poor financial shape they’re in, since they had paid the city many hundreds of thousands of dollars since 2007. The figures didn’t quite jive with the city, so they felt the need to correct the information and did so at a Saturday meeting. Above, David Fredrick (standing) Lab Tech with the Wastewater Plant, said Tyson was off their figures quoted at last weeks meeting. Mayor Richard Deweese did not attend, all other aldermen did.
The city has only a few more days to meet a looming deadline to contract for a new wastewater treatment plant, if that’s the way they decide to go. The city also revisited the option of a pre-treatment plant. It was noted that 98% of Tyson’s plants in the U.S. have their own pre-treatment facility. A grant may also be available to the city for a third option. Plant Supervisor Shawn Raglin explained that some upgrades to the existing plant could be made for around $1 million dollars. Further checking will be done on that.
It was also mentioned at the Saturday meeting that Tyson’s may be going to a shorter workweek in the near future. If that is the case, that would mean a loss in revenue for the city. The council will meet Tuesday evening after the conclusion of the public hearing on the city’s new master plan to make a decision as to which way they will go. Write Comment (0 comments) |
